Johanna Chen

Hi, 大家好. My name is Johanna Chen. I am a cat lover and a guitar enthusiast. I am currently a senior at Seattle Pacific University pursuing a Bachelor Degree of Visual Communications with a passion of UI/UX and Motion Design. I’m originally from Qingdao, China, and moved to Seattle 4 years ago. Sometimes I would like to incorporate my Chinese culture background with the western design style together to bring diversity to the workplace.

As a visual communicator, I also love music, photography, and film making. I believe creating strong design and building visual experiences can impact the society.

Case Study: Motion Design Conference

This is the booklet I made for a fake motion design conference. The name of the conference is called” MOWAVE”. The mission of the conference is for professional motion designers who work in the professional field having one on one with students who want to join motion design field and share ideas with one another.  I incorporated circles and waves to create movement, and  I added the transparent color and gradient as the style of my booklet. It includes the overview, speakers, sessions, schedules, and sponsorship pages.

Beats Promo Video

This is a promo video I made. The goal is to create a captivating 30 second promo for a brand or broadcast to introduce their brand identity, to be featured via a TV promo, web spot, or pre-event spot. The brand I choose is “beats”. They’re really famous for their headphones and speakers. I personally love this brand, and I noticed a lot young generation like to use beats as well. When designing this motion video, I wanted to use cool colors and some music elements to make it visually appealing, but also keep the brand guidelines. For the type choices, I used the similar font as the beats logo font, and I used Futura for the commercial words in the video. In addition, I added glitch effect to show a sense of vibration of the music.

I Closet: App Design

https://viscom19.spu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/ChenJohanna_Project01_AppShowcase.mp4

This is the app I made called “I Closet.” It is an clothing application that helps users to find their daily outfit depending on different occasions and weather update. It also tells you clothing suggestions from the closet including adding schedule and see upcoming events. The users will take pictures of all your clothes in your closet and upload those in your library. Second, They will go through their closet inventory, and choose an occasion or see suggestions for today. Then, they can select or change the suggestions from your closet. I created a motion graphic video for the app showcase which shows some of the features in this app. People can easily navigate the main uses of the app such as adding your schedule, upcoming events, and checking clothing inventory for outfits and weather.
